Ordinary man

Waiting for a break

Said he was an actor
Bit of a photographer
But made his living out of laughter
Which made him a comedian
Waiting for his million
That was soon coming
But for now he was bumming

He looked in the mirror
Looking back at an era
And finished up his brushstroke
And laughing at a private joke
He saw the self-hate
In his self-portrait
That would one day hang in the tate
Next to a rembrandt
But still couldn't pay the rent-man

He said he was a musician
Who had this ambition
For everyone to listen
To his natural rhythm
But for now he was chilling
Just saying this :

It's a matter of time
Before I get mine
You could call it fate
I'm just waiting for my break
I'm just waiting for my break

He said he was a model
But the only trouble
Was he didn't like the idea
Of getting photographed in swimwear
But he might try it next year

He's starting up a business
Before next christmas
'Cause he worked better on his own
With a mobile phone
But still waiting for the bank loan

He said he was a worker
That suffered from inertia
A real soul searcher
That had no religion
But still went to confession

He says he is a free spirit
Though he doesn't appear it
Living in a bedsit
With no fire exit
Waiting for a giro cheque
That's soon coming
But for now he's bumming
Just saying this :

It's a matter of time
Before I get mine
You could call it fate
I'm just waiting for my break
I'm just waiting for my break
Let me tell you this story
Over the drink you brought me
You see

I'm an actor
Bit of a photographer
But make my living out of laughter
Which makes me a comedian
Waiting for my million
That's soon coming

Bedroom Dancing

Do you wanna go dancing,
In a club?
We can have a good time,
And live it up.
'Said if you wanna go dancing,
You'll got to wear a tuxedo,
And we could do the tango, wherever we go.
'Said if you wanna do the tango,
Then we're gonna need a ballroom,
So she took me by the hand,
And led me to her bedroom.
And then she did it,
She struck half-naked,
And told me, that her body, was sacred.
She said I could take her,
If I danced with her,
But somehow I knew
That she was an indian devil.
I said "what about tomorrow?",
She said "what about tonight?
trust me baby, it'll be alright (it'll be alright)"

She walked to him wearing toledo boots,
First woman wedding then honey moon
This girl that I'd thought I knew so well
didn't know where until we're at the hotel and,
We're on the dancfloor,
By the seashore
She said "these nights we danc together,
Is what I live for" I said
"what about before,
Before these nights?"
She said "Ask me no questions and
I'll tell you no lies"
I said "what about tomorrow?"
She said "what about tonight?
trust me baby, it'll be alright (it'll be alright)"

And so we danced, and danced, and danced, and danced,
So we danced, and danced, and danced, and danced,
All night
All night
All night

Twelve o'clock, the music stopped,
She walked away from me,
And took her shoed off,
And she said "that's it",
And I knew it, she said
"We can't dance, without music"
I said "we can dance tomorrow",
She said "we've already danced tonight,
Trust me baby, you'll be alright (you'll be alright)
It'll be alright (it'll be alright)
It'll be alright (it'll be alright)
It'll be alright (it'll be alright)

Walk now talk now

About 2 o' clock I left the party
I'd been drinking red wine and talking hardy
So I walked to the bus stop and looked over the city
Said hello to the man sitting there but he didn't hear me
So it's me and this stranger both trying to find a way home
Waiting for a bus that was never gonna come
So I said did you have a good night trying to make some discussion
The man said what's your problem I said nothing
'Cause I'm just walking now talking now and living now
And you're just walking now talking now and living now
In fact we're both walking now talking now and living now
So just walk now talk now and live now

It's getting half for three and I'm getting lonely
I call out my baby for some company
So we're lying there in bed talking about nothing in particular
I was staring at the ceiling and she was reading kama-sutra
Then she sat up and said you know our sex life is getting sort of circular
So I took her to the desk and switched on the computer
And said we're gonna take a trip down the information super highway
But if you're gonna come with me then you've got to do it my way
All it takes now is one push on the button
She said what's your problem I said nothing
I'm just walking now talking now and living now
And you're just walking now talking now and living now
In fact we're both walking now talking now and living now
So just walk now talk now and live now

It's around 4 o' clock and I'm back at the party
They're still drinking red wine and talking hardy
But now I've got a problem nobody wants to ask me what it is
They said that they would only it's none of their business
And someone says what's your opinion on Russian animal welfare
I said that's the least of my problems that's be quite frank I don't care
And someone said you have a good night trying to make some discussion
I said what's your problem he said nothing
I'm just walking now talking now and living now
And you're just walking now talking now and living now
In fact we're both walking now talking now and living now
So just walk now talk now and live now

In Your life

Give me a smile
Things aren't that bad are they ?
It'll take a while
But we can get this right some way

So dry your eyes and
Wipe those tears away
'Cause baby you are mine and
That's the way it's gonna stay

I'm in your life
I'm in your life
I'm in your life
I'm in your life

You're going up in the world
And baby I'm coming down
Looks like we're both out of luck girl
And we're stuck in this town

We'll call it opportunity
Try and see it as fate
'Cause this is all new to me
So you'll have to pardon my mistakes

I'm in your life
I'm in your life
I'm in your life
I'm in your life

Now I've been chasing that girl
Waiting for her to catch me
And now I got that girl
Right where she wants me

And you can try and get out of here
Until you've forgot
But baby I'll still be here
And whether you like it or not

I'm in your life
I'm in your life
I'm in your life
I'm in your life

Trying too hard

I said you're the woman from last night
Standing just to my right
You're the one that said I was sweet
When I left your kiss in my cheek
And said we could hook up sometime maybe
Well now is a good a time as any
She said I don't mean to offend you
But you're not quite how I remembered you
You seemed to look a lot better then
But I think you're nice as a friend
So pull up a seat and sit down
We're just having a drink and hanging out
So I tried to play it sexy and hurt
She said I came across as an introvert
So I changed to being a deep and profound
Until she asked me if I was feeling down
And when I told her that I was well read
She looked at me and just said : Waouf waouf !

You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
Whatever it is I'm not buying

So I phoned her that weekend
She said she's seeing a barman called jonathan
He wears nice clothes and keeps his hair neat
But I could give her a call back next week
So next week we're out to coffee
She tells me she's really gone off me
I say gone off me? Hey you don't know me
She said exactly so don't phone me
I said you haven't even given this a chance
She smiled and looked with a glance and said : Waouf waouf !

You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
Whatever it is I'm not buying

You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
Whatever it is I'm not buying

When is this loneliness gonna end and
When will they stop crawling about their boyfriends (boyfriends)
When is a girl gonna get with me (me)
There must be one in this city see ? (see)
All I want is something that's real (real)
I'm tired of having to spiel (spiel)

Two months later she phones me up now
Saying hey I heard you're doing well now
Let's you and me go out for a meal
'Cause I've never told you how I really feel
So how about it and you can meet me
I said which me did you wanna see?
I got a girl now who knows who I am
So I can be my own man I'm flattered but

You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
Whatever it is I'm not buying

You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
You're trying too hard but keep trying
Whatever it is I'm not buying

I'm doing fine

Everyone has
Their own centre to this universe
But it stops right there
And kids who try and see it all
Writing graffiti on the wall
But it stops right there
And we're all in the know
From one television show
But it stops right there
And take care of yourself
'Cause it's all about ourselves
And it stops right there

I'm lost looking in a sea of faces everywhere
Now where did she go?
I need to find her quickly
To immerse my insecurity
I'm lonely amongst these people
And I need to feel love
And I need to feel part of something
Is that strange?
And why are they reluctant to talk
And why do they look alone when they walk?
I see a face but no names

But despite my confusion
I've come to the conclusion
That people
Need people
It's something I forget
But I've come to accept
That people
Need people

And I'm alright
And I'm ok
I'm surviving well
Without you
And what did you want
And what did you expect
Did you want me to still talk about you?

No, no way
I'm on my own now
And doing fine ( and doing fine )
No, no way
I'm on my own now
And doing fine ( and doing fine )

And anyone can give
Money to a good cause
But it stops right there
And anyone can sign
A petition to change the law
But it stops right there
And we can believe in socialism
Or any theorism
But it stops right there
And take care of yourself
'Cause it's all about yourself
And it stops right there
But I'm not part of this
I'm not seeing what they're seeing
I'm staring at the ceiling to the world
To see what is lying
On the horizon
Maybe I'll see you again someday girl

But despite my raw deal
I still feel
That people
Need people
It's something we forget
But we must accept
That people
Need people

And I'm alright
And I'm ok
I'm surviving well without you
And what did you want
And what did you expect
Did you want me to still talk about you?
No, no way
I'm on my own now
And doing fine
No, no way
I'm on my own now
And doing fine
I'm doing fine

Autumn rain

Look around
Look around look around
Is there something I'm missing here
Is there something I should know

And just listen to the sound
All around there's people living their lives
People passing by
As I catch their eye

It doesn't matter where you're from
'Cause wherever you are from
You got a long walk home
You got a long walk on

And I've walked for many years
And I've never shed a tear
For a place called home
'Cause in this place I roam

Everyone's the same
When you're walking in the autumn rain
Walking in the autumn rain

When you're walking from your past
You can never walk too fast
Think you got away at last
Think you got away at last

And we all have to live with our mistakes
But what would it take
To make things right
To feel good inside

It doesn't matter what you've done
'Cause whatever you've done
Life has to go on
Life has to go on, yeah

And my conscience is always clear every time I am here
Because there is no blame
When you're walking
In the autumn rain
In the autumn rain ...

Truly Madly Deeply

It was a windy day outside the cafe
He was drinking coffee, she was sipping Chardonnay
And the were both from different walks of life
Hers a better life, His a harder life
He walked his rhythm in worn leather shoes, the sole split
Dawning an old leather jacket
She walked her rhythm in designer shoes expensive
Her style guarded by the cut of her dress
And then it happened, looking at each other imagine us as lovers
Does unsaid words, were only said in sight
It felt right, so stepped to her and said to her :
Leave with me, and you can be with me
Leave with me, and you can be with me
As they walked there was a silence between them
And silence is the canvas for words
She looked into his eyes, romanticised his whole life
He had that look that he was far and
Lit up a smoke and spoke his words like a baron
He was unshaven, had craving for danger off of stranger
Looked like he had it in his nature
And she said : What are you thinking
What are you thinking about?
What are you thinking, what are you thinking about?
And he said: The difference between thinking and talking
Is that talking is the expression of thought
And thought is the unexpressed idea
So if I wanted you to know, I would've said it not thought it
She said: You cant think enough
He said: You can think too much, you can think up a dream
But there's no dream that you can touch
But I can touch you, so you must be true
And said again:
That I can touch you, so you must be true
And said again...
It was a windy day outside the cafe...
It was a windy day outside the cafe
He was drinking coffee, she was sipping Chardonnay
And the were both from different walks of life
Hers a better life, His a harder life
He walked his rhythm in worn leather shoes, the sole split
Dawning an old leather jacket
It was a windy day outside the cafe
She was sipping Chardonnay...
Hmmmm....

Love on the dole

He was in section A to G,
She was under H to T.
Their eyes met across the queue,
Look at you.

He asked for her current address,
She blushed and said how her hair was a mess.
He said "I'd really like,
to go out with you".
He said "we'll wait, 'til ??? day,
And that way, the queen can pay.
So I'll pick you up tomorrow".

She answered wearing slippers,
Said she couldn't find a baby-sitter.
He said "I'm going nowhere without you."
So she took her kids to her mom's for the night,
And they went and the birght lights,
In the town, mad them feel, like a million pounds.

They went out for a romantic dinner,
Then went to to see a real blues singer.
She said "I really like, being with you".
And when they came to the end of the night,
He asked her hard again in a fortnight.
She said "I'll see your before, in the line,
when we sign".

So two weeks later she's looking for him,
But he's not in the queue amongst all the men.
She's looking frantically, but no luck.
She walks up to his friend,
And asks him why he isn't signing ???
He shakes his head, she says "what's wrong?"
He said "they took him away, yesterday".
He said "you see my darling, they did a search,
Turns out he's ??? in building work."

He said "I've seen it before, another broken heart,
From love on the dole, love on the dole,
It's love on the dole, love on the dole,
Love on the dole,
He said "it's love on the dole".

Paradise lost

Shhhhh.. be quiet now, be still my darling
I can see you lying there in your bed
Even know you're … only in my head
I'm so far away X6

A
nd if you could see what I can see
And if you could hear me now baby
And I can tell you this paradise is lost
Flowers blossom in stone in this place I'm livin lost
I'm so far away X3
And what I think I'm trying to say is
I can't help thinking about you
And I can't help thinking about every one in you
I can't help thinking about you
And I can't help thinking about every one in you

Do you remember old times my friend
Who knows good old times
You seem so distant now
From these days of mine
I can see you clearly now
Joking and drinking wine
Even know it's only in my mind

And if you could see me now
And if you could hear me now my friend
I can tell you this  paradise is lost
Flowers blossom in stone in this (soons ?)
I can I'll be coming home
I'm so far away X3
And what I guess I'm trying to say is
I can't help thinking about you
And I can't help thinking about every one in you
I can't help thinking about you
And I can't help thinking about every one in you

I wonder what you're doing now
And whatever you're doing now
I hope you're alright
Do you remember that night ?
That night seems… so far away X3

And I could see what I can see
And its only me that can hear me
And I'm the only one in those
Paradises lost flowers blossoms in stone (stolen?)
I wish I was back home X2

Ordinary man

There is a woman
Who lives in this town
That has my heart
Held in her hand

I see her in the
Streets every day
But I can't find
The words to say

But if I were a writer
And could write a good hand
I'd write of this love
That I don't understand

The words in my head
They come and they go
I'm thinking I love her
But she'll never know

And if I were a sculptor
And had a good eye
I'd carve out her beauty
In marble or ice

But these hands of mine
Are far from refined
I guess I'll have to accept that I am
Just an ordinary man
I'm just an ordinary man

Now if I were good looking
And had a pretty face
And if I could walk
And speak with grace

And if I had style
Then I
Wouldn't have to look down when she walked by

And if I were a singer
And could sing a good key
I'd sing of this love
In melody

But this voice of mine
Is far from refined
I guess I'll have to accept that I am
Just an ordinary man
I'm just an ordinary man

I know one day she'll look
I know one day she'll see me
And maybe that one day
She'll want to be with me
And maybe she'll love me
For who I am
Just as that ordinary man
Just as that ordinary man

Bad before good

Gotta get bad before it gets good
It's got to get bad before it gets good
It's got to get bad before it gets good
I want it good now
But it's gotta get bad before it gets good
That's what you say
It's got to get bad before it gets good
Say stick with me you know that you should
Because it's got to get bad before it gets good

You say you trust me
Nut just me
Put your faith in me
Then wait patiently
Keep on telling me lies
I'll believe you, believe you
Keep on telling me lies
Like I need you, I need you
You say it's hard now
But good things come from this
So I'll keep on living on your promises

Gotta get bad before it gets good
It's got to get bad before it gets good
It's got to get bad before it gets good
I want it good now
But it's gotta get bad before it gets good
That's what you say
It's got to get bad before it gets good
Say stick with me you know that you should
Because it's got to get bad before it gets good

What you use to say
You use to do
If you told me something
I'd know it was true
See there was a time
I could believe you, believe you
But this time
I can see through, see through
I used to trust before I knew
That there was a difference
Between what you say and what you do

Gotta get bad before it gets good
It's got to get bad before it gets good
It's got to get bad before it gets good
I want it good now
But it's gotta get bad before it gets good
That's what you say
It's got to get bad before it gets good
Say stick with me you know that you should
Because it's got to get bad before it gets good

You tell me lies
But you do it with style
Saying it will come good in a little while
You keep on spinning your words that beguile
Then you break your promises with a film star smile
You say, you say, you say, you say, you say
But what do you do
What do you do
You say, you say, you say, you say, you say
But what do you do
What do you do
Don't care what you say
Just show me what you do
Show me what you do

Say, say
Do, do
Do, do
Say, say
Do, do
Do, do
Say, say
Do, do
Do

Feet Firmly On The Ground

There's been a whole bunch of people talking
Saying now he's getting taxi cabs, he's not walking
Have you seen him
No, I last saw him
A month ago now he's off touring
Out of sight but not out of mind
Thinking of you home drinking your wine
Yes, I roam and yes I roll
But I need home to feed my soul

Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground
Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground
Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground
Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground

Well, there's been a whole bunch of people talking
Saying now I only see him laughing and joking
Have you seen him? Why's he not calling
He's out exploring
I'm still hungry, I'm still starving
I'm still walking, I'm still marching
Through the city looking for a song
That's where I belong
Yes, I roam and yes, I roll
But I need home to feed my soul
Yes, I roam and yes, I roll
But I need my people to feed my soul
And when I'm gone too long
I know it's cool 'cause it won't be too long
Before I'm back home with my people

Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground
Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground
Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground
Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground

Well, there's been a whole bunch of people talking
Saying I don't know whether to like him or loathe him
Did you see him and when you saw him
Did you say hello or did you ignore him
Well, these kind of games to me are boring
Either not speaking or their hearts are bouring
nice club but I've got bartstool
With my name on it back in Bristol

Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground
Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground
Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground
Early in the morning I hit the street
And keep my feet firmly on the ground

The Little Things

I saw her one day in the hallway
Kicking up something from the floor
She was living next-door
I noticed her before, coming in at night
But never looked twice, didn't think she was my type

Then she did this thing
This thing she always does
She put her hand on her thigh and began to rub
Then something felt different
Something made me want it
Something had changed
I couldn't put my finger on it

Just the little things she did
To turn me on
It's just the little things shе did
I don't know which one
It' just the little things shе did
To turn me on
It's just the little things she did
I don't know which one

Is it the way she turned around when I was looking
Or when she smiled with one corner so her lips went crooked
The way she twitched her nose, the way she wore her clothes
Or the color of her varnish she was wearing on her toes

Just the little things she did
The little things she did

Saw her again today in the same way
Kicking up something from the floor
She just got back from the store
She smiled at me before, coming in at night
But I never smiled back, didn't think she was my type

Then she did this thing
This thing she always does
She put her finger in some balm and gave her lips a rub
Then I saw her different
No longer platonic
What is it about her
I can't put my finger on it

Just the little things she did
To turn me on
It's just the little things she did
I don't know which one
It' just the little things she did
To turn me on
It's just the little things she did
I don't know which one

Is it the way she closed her eyes when she was drinking
Or put her finger on her mouth when she was thinking
Was it her million-mile stare? The way she did her hair
With her little mirror, she can take it anywhere

Just the little things she did
The little things she did

Now I can't look at her in the same way
Kicking up something from the floor
She knows it so she does it more
I say goodbye before she goes out at night
But now she looks at me as if to say "You're not my type."

I hear the little things going on through the wall
Never used to notice but now I hear them all
I think about the things she does and how she does it
What is it about her
I can't put my finger on it

Just the little things she did
To turn me on
It's just the little things she did
I don't know which one
It' just the little things she did
To turn me on
It's just the little things she did
I don't know which one

Is it the way she tilts her head when she's laughing
Or when her eyes go chinesey and her lips start pouting
The way she smiles at me when she's walking past
Or the dresses that she wears that accentuate her ass

Just the little things she did
Just the little things she did

Like the way that she plays with her earrings
It's just the little things she did
Like the way her mannerisms are endearing
It's just the little things she did

Saturday Siren

She stared into my eyes
She had a look that moved me
And whispered in my ear
She had a voice that soothed me
And whispering words to a dreamer
Always makes the grasses greener
When the words are "Let it go."

She said "Let it all go."
I did and we talked about many things
She said "I know, I know
I understand everything."
She was singing out to sea
Singing out to me like a siren
She said "Come here, my darling
No man is an island."

All you arе is lost on a Friday
All you're doing is drifting into Saturday
All you are is lost on a Friday
All you're doing is drifting into Saturday

As I got closе
I felt the ghosts of other men
Felt familiar
Like somewhere I'd already been
I've heard about this place in stories
There's been others here before me
That have heard the words "Let it go."

She said "I see you
Out on the weekend nights
Searching for that moment
That you can never find
And do you really want to be here
Or is it you just like the idea
Of the words let it go?"

All we are is lost at a Friday
All we're doing is drifting into Saturday
All we are is lost at a Friday
All we're doing is drifting into Saturday
All we are is lost at a Friday
All we're doing is drifting into Saturday
All we are is lost at a Friday
All we're doing is drifting into Saturday

Now I don't see her face
But I see her through the mist
Calling out to me
And others adrift
Singing out those words so sweetly
Carry through the air to meet me
I hear her echo "Let it go."
Let it go
Let it go

All we are is lost at a Friday
All we're doing is drifting into Saturday
All we are is lost at a Friday
All we're doing is drifting into Saturday
All we are is lost at a Friday
All we're doing is drifting into Saturday
All we are is lost at a Friday
All we're doing is drifting into Saturday

Now I'm a little older

Now I'm a little older
This world seems a little colder
The horizon seems far from me
But it's always getting closer

What's in the past is over
It only allows
Memories to be as good to me
As how I use them now

Loving life
Living life
It appears to repeat itself
It appears to repeat itself

Now I'm a little older
This world seems a little smaller
Places that were far away from me
Are just across the water

We all have our own borders
We all have our own cultures
We all have our own differences
We all have our own soldiers

Popular life
Political life
It appears to repeat itself
It appears to repeat itself

Now I'm a little older
Maybe it's me who's a little colder
Maybe I'm immune to it all
Maybe I'm a little stronger

As a kid, I picked up a stick
And called it a laser gun
That laser gun is just a stick again
Now where has that kid gone

Everyday life
Our way of life
It appears to repeat itself
It appears to repeat itself

Looking at how life changes
Different times, different ages
Everyone at different stages
Friends become faces, lovers, strangers

Once I held a woman in my arms
And swore she was the one
That one became just the first
Now where has that love gone

Money

Tryna be a good man, tryna be a true man
Not doing much but I'm doing the best I can
Not to be cynical and keep my principles
But money gets in the way of life

Tryna have morality but the monetary
Mathematics can make it so pragmatic
Tryna make the right choice, not listen to the voice
That says money is the way of life

Looking for the right girl, looking for a good girl
Looking for something right in the wrong world
Wanna make a family and live with them happily
But money gets in the way of life

Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
'Cause money, money, money, money
Money is the way of life

Tryna be kind-hearted, tryna get started
Makes it hard to have a good heart in the world market
Tryna have a purpose beyond the money surplus
But money gets in the way of life

Tryna be positive, tryna be constructive
But financial figures can be so seductive
Tryna get an education but the money-making
Makes money get in the way of life

Tryna earn a living but whatever I'm giving
Maybe make a million 'fore inflation hits the ceiling
Tryna find the temple for spiritual investment
But money gets in the way of life

Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
'Cause money, money, money, money
Money is the way of life

It's what about what a man earns, what a man owns
All about the FTSE, all about the Dow Jones
All about the interest on the bank loans
Money gets in the way of life

All about share price, all about stock price
All about the points at the close at the end-of-night
All about the currency, all about the indices
Money gets in the way of life

All about the paper, all about the plastic
All about the cheque only if you cash it
It's an idea that's abstracted
Money is the way of life

Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
'Cause money, money, money, money
Money is the way of life

Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
Money, money, money, money
Money gets in the way of life
'Cause money, money, money, money
Money is the way of life

Give It To Me

(Feat. Will I Am)

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me now

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me now

Instant stimulation
Instant gratification
Feed my senses with sensations
Do it now 'cause I hate waitin'

More than a minute
And sorry you've lost me
I'm working off the buzz
Of instant coffee
Take a break to eat instant food
Modified, new ad improved

Only sleep to have instant dreams
Instinct success and get rich schemes
I got instantly credit
Now I'm instantly in debt

So give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me
Give it to me now

Give it to me, give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me, ah-give it to me now

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me, give it to me
Ah-give it to me now

Instant information
Instant communication
Feel it for it now
Feed my fixation
Procrastination will cause frustration

I'm demanding a quick transaction
If its stagnant, then its dissatisfaction
All I'm askin' is that she be maxing
Your delivery capabilities, that’s when I’m satisfied

Get it right, that’s the way I want it
Very rapid on the double's how it's wanted
Mail it to me overnight, send it via email
Call me on my mobile
I make myself available

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me
Give it to me now

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me
Ah give it to me now

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me, ah-give it to me now

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me
Ah, give it to me now

Instant want and temptation
It keeps coming, I keep taking
It comes quicker 'cause I hate waiting

And I have instant ideas
Instance hopes, instants fears
Keep it coming, keeping it coming
Keep it coming, keep it coming
Cha cha cha

Hear the chants
Make us drink and make us dance
Keep it up until I can't
I take it or give me the chance

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me
Give it to me now

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me
Ah give it to me now

Give it to me
Give it to me, give it to me
Give it to me
Ah, give it to me now

Travelcard Traveler

He was in the bar down by the Thames
Having a drink with some old friends
They just got back from traveling the world
And next year they were going again

They said the places we've been
The people we've seen
If we could only describe to you
He thought to himself
"If I had money, then I'd go traveling too"

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay
Travelcard traveler

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay
Travelcard traveler

So he went on a trip trying to find himself
In East India, East London
Him on his own with nobody else
Looking for somewhere or someone

Made his way to West India Quay
Trekking through the concrete jungle
Brick mountains, man-made fountains
Stainless steel trees that made him feel humble

He stopped and watched with euphoria
As the day was dawning
And said to himself
"Gloria, this was a spiritual moment for him"

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay
Travelcard traveler

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay
Travelcard traveler

Fell asleep and woke up in Cyprus
Had some lunch in the sun then later
Found himself somewhere else to drink
Sink a few rhums in the old Jamaica

The bar man said, "You look bored, kid
You wanna play some dominoes"
He said, "Okay. As long as it's quick
There's someplace that I've gotta go"

Hung around there for an hour more or less
Playing dominoes with Dennis
Then he took two tickets, goes west
To see the canal in Little Venice

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay
Travelcard traveler

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay
Travelcard traveler

Please mind the gap
The next station is Canada Water

I've seen the sun on Canada Water
I've seen the moon on Olympia
Shone so bright down on the river
He felt the same sense of euphoria

He said "I'm sure this broadened my horizon
I'm sure that it broadened my mind
Something that I felt I had to do
Before I settle down to a 9-to-5

But who am I kidding
Who am I joking
All these places are an hour from Woking
Maybe I'll get to see the real deal
Well, that's what I'm hoping"

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay
Travelcard traveler
That's what I'm hoping

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay
Travelcard traveler
That's what I'm hoping

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay
Travelcard traveler
That's what I'm hoping

On my way
Travelcard traveler
I can't stay

Probably Art

I went to visit this private postmodern exhibit
Oh, the food was fine and the wine exquisite
Someone said what is this work communicating
You said it's all up to interpretation

It can mean anything that you want it to be
I said is it nothing if it means nothing to me
He said hey, look, he welcomes constructive criticism
And if you give to him then he'll listen to them

But if you're bitching at him for his ???
Keep your cynicism to a minimum
Any questions?

I said "Yeah, what is it"
He said it's probably art
It's probably art
I said what is it
He said it's probably art
It's probably art

I went to a screening of an art house film
About life and meaning
It explored the questions of existence
You know, thinking and being

And being in a cinema, you would've thought
There would've been the existence of icecream or popcorn
Because I had nothing sweet to eat while I was watching this meaningful soft porn
The film was existentialist from the directors viewpoint as a feminist

So the girl that I took there on a date with me
Left that cinema hating me
What? What is it

What is it
She said it's probably art
It's probably art
I said what is it
She said it's probably art
Well, it's probably art

I was at a recital of a poem that'd been left untitled
It was onomatopoeic, write it how you say it
About the life cycle
And it used all the classic metaphors like sea shores and open doors

Well, I said it was like me that he wrote it for
He said that's the effect he was hoping for
I said it's beautiful, what is it

What is it
He said it's probably art
It's probably art
I said what is it
He said it's probably art
It's probably art

I said what is it
It's probably art
It's probably art
It's probably art
It's probably art
It's probably art-art-art-art-art

Who Own The Rain

Sun sets in the third world
First light in the first world
Wakes us from our sleep, we need to eat
We need to break our thirst, break our fast and girl

Every new day there's a new price to pay
Something more through the door, they always find a new way
To make a profit off a sun ray, a raindrop, a breeze
A seed, some soil, a food crop

Above us all, our star shines
But it's not yours, it's not mine
Travel in space, travel in time
To give us life from light years behind

And we've got plenty, we've got enough
But nothing's free in this world, girl, but your love
We've got plenty, we've got enough
But we've got people keeping prices up

Who owns the sun that shines in the sky
Doesn't it shine on all of us
Doesn't it shine on all of us

Sun sets on the first world
First light in the third world
Wakes them from their sleep, they need to eat
Need to break their thirst, break their famine
Whilst you and me dream, girl

Every new dawn there's a thousand babies born
Next to fields of coca beans
When it should be fields of corn
Above us all, the rain pours down
Drops sound like coins as they hit the ground

We've got plenty, we've got enough
But nothing's free in this world, girl, but your love
We've got plenty, we've got enough
But we've got people keeping prices up

Who owns the rain that falls from the sky
Doesn't it fall on all of us
Doesn't it fall on all of us

The rain pours on the first world
The rain pours on the third world
The sun shines on the whole world
At different times as the world turns

We've got plenty, we've got enough
But nothing's free in this world, girl, but your love
We've got plenty, we've got enough
But we've got people keeping prices up

Who owns the rain that falls from the sky
Doesn't it fall on all of us
Doesn't it fall on all of us

Who owns the sun that shines in the sky
Doesn't it shine on all of us
Doesn't it shine on all of us

Time To Go

Something says it's time to go
I've been still too long
I need to roll

When I go, will I be missed
'Cause on the way
You don't exist

On the way, as in between
Between dusk and dawn
That's when you dream

You dream when you're on your own
About being there
Or being back home

On your way
On your way
On your way

Something tells you
And you know
The time to stay
And the time to go

When I go
I'll be missed
But you feel free
When you don't exist

You feel free
When you're in-between
When you're on your own
That's when you dream

On your way is anywhere
It's neither here
Neither there

On your way
It's yours alone
Until you reach
Or go back home

On your way
On your way
On your way

On your way
On your way
On your way

The World Is Round

You give me yourself
You give me everything
You make me want to dance
You make me want to sing

I will do anything
All that a man can do
Just to receive your love
And give mine back to you

Thought I knew about love
But it is quite clear
Until I had your love
I had no idea

But everything changed forever
A change so profound
Like whoever discovered
That the world is round
The world is round

I'll give you myself
I'll give you everything
I'll give you my life
Give you a wedding ring

There isn't anything
That we can't do
'Cause you believe in me
And I believe in you

Thought I'd experienced love
But it was never that
Until I had your love
To me, this world was flat

Everything changed forever
A change so profound
Like whoever discovered
That the world is round
The world is round

There is nothing close to this feeling
This is a revelation, an awakening
All that life has taught, all of my learning
Now I must rip it up and start again

I thought I knew about love
But everything I knew
Was based on a premise that was untrue

Everything changed forever
A change so profound
Like whoever discovered
That the world is round

The world is round
The world is round
The world is round

Happy Man

Listen to your heartbeat
It's like listening to life
So why does it always remind me of death
I know I'm alive 'cause I keep on breathing
Suddenly, I'm grateful for every breath

Acutely aware of my own mortality
Seeing the world with disturbing clarity
Pulse is racing and my sense is heightened
Part of me is excited, part of me is frightened

A moment pass, I gasp with relief
Question all myself belief
Then a weight gets lifted and my mind relaxes
Sure things in life aren't death and taxes

It's all too much some days
Oh yeah!
But baby, that's okay
I do the best I can
Oh yeah!
To be a happy man
Oh yeah!

There was a time in life I was so carefree
I felt invincible, nothing would worry me
But that all changed with responsibilities
You think about the future and it all gets scary

I talked to a friend about the whole dying thing
He said, "Stop this conversation, then try again"
You can give it all up, it just makes life feel longer
What doesn't kill you makes you stronger

It's all too much some days
Oh yeah!
But baby, that's okay
I do the best I can
Oh yeah!
To be a happy man

It's all too much some days
Oh yeah!

Some days are like trying to eat soup with a fork
Cat's got my tongue and a pussy cat talk
Legs like jelly, man, so I can't walk
Floating in a ocean of emotions and thoughts

But then I snap out of it and get it in perspective
Can't spend my life being so introspective
We all have to learn to live with our neurosis
Everyday a different self-diagnosis

You may just laugh and see it as pathetic
But either you've had it or you're gonna get it
We come and we go, yeah I said it
The sooner you accept it, the sooner you forget it

It's all too much some days
Oh yeah!
But baby, that's okay
I do the best I can
Oh yeah!
To be a happy man

It's all too much some days

Near Life Experience

Alarm clock went off, he got up
No time for breakfast, always in a rush
He put on his suit and took the same route
Down to the station and jumped on a tube

Walked into the office, said hello to the boss
The boss didn't notice. She just walked off
He got a cup of coffee and went to his desk
His boss walked by and said, "Sort out this mess"

Cold calling on the phone, trying to sell loans
But all he was getting was the hung-up tone
He walked to the window and looked into the distance and said

Is this all there is to my existence
'm dead inside, it's all so tedious
What I need is a near-life experience
Near-life experience
A near-life experience

A reckless on a Friday, crazy on a Saturday
But always knew where he had to be on a Monday
Trying to find adventure in the city center
And fool himself he's free by going on a bender

But Sunday on the sofa, and life is unfulfilling
Watching TV all day with an anxious feeling
Nine o'clock in the evening, it's work in the morning
Back to routine, but routine is boring

Two nights of the week, he makes his escape
But always finds himself back in the same place
He collapsed into bed and fell asleep
Dreaming of heroes and gods and sheep

Woke up to the clock, shocked and delirious
And for a moment
A near-life experience
A near-life experience
He thought he had a near-life experience

One weekend at a party, he met this girl
She worked for the Red Cross and traveled round the world
She talked about Africa, talked about Asia
He was hung on every word that she spoke as they lay there

Twelve months later, and they're lying on a beach
Somewhere on the coast of Mozambique
He looked into her eyes and he realized
At that moment, he was really living life

Not living to work, just working for a living
Normal substitute in real life with television
And God knows where he is now, but he's there with his wife
And a man once dead, is very much alive

He's got a real-life experience
A real-life experience
Now he's got a real-life experience
No more near-life experience

Just Believe

Do you know what you're supposed to be
Do you know where you're meant to be
Do you believe in destiny
It's only luck and opportunity

I'm a young man
Don't know where I am
Drifting through a no man's land
Doing my best to understand
My place in this life so grand

There must be a small part to play
I don't need a soliloquy
A bit role would be okay
With maybe just a few words to say

But what if there really is no purpose
We're just clowns in nature's circus
Lifetime of prayers but nobody's heard us
We daren't think it 'cause the thought disturbs us

They might like it, they might not
But that doesn't mean that you should stop
They might get it, they might not
But don't you forget what you got now

Keep on doing what you do
Let the world catch up with you
Just believe in what you do
Let the world catch up with you

Do you know what you want to be
If you do, my friend, you're so lucky
Many find comfort in conformity
I'm making due with mediocrity.

I'm my own man, my future's in my hands
I'll take a risk. I'll take a chance
Seems sometimes like this world demands
We live our life to someone else's plans

But if you dance to someone else's tune
That'll be the only song you'll sing soon
So be yourself and play your part
'Cause art is life and life is art

Trying to find some greater meaning
That's what makes us human beings
You gotta go for what you believe in
You gotta keep on dreaming

You might make it, you might not
But that doesn't mean you should stop
You might get there, you might not
But don't you forget what you got now

Keep on doing what you do
Let the world catch up with you
Just believe in what you do
Let the world catch up with you

Keep on doing what you do
Let the world catch up with you
Just believe in what you do
Let the world catch up with you

You, you, you, you, you, you, you, you
Keep on doing what you do
Let the world catch up with you
You, you, you, you, you, you, you, you

Just believe in what you do
Let the world catch up with you
You, you, you, you, you, you, you, you
Just believe in

Lovers and Strangers

Strolling down the sidewalk
Overhearing small talk in New York City
Sat outside a cafe all day
I saw a girl so pretty

And after a while she smiled
So I walked over and I said "Hi"
I introduced myself, she introduced herself
She said her name was Sky

We talked all afternoon and pretty soon
We were underneath the moonlight
She said "I share a place in Brooklyn
I show you my room if you'd like"

It's funny how strangers
Can become lovers in just one day
Well, it's funny how lovers
Can become strangers in the same way

Strollin' down the boulevard
Towards Montmartre in Paris
I stopped off at a brasserie
Got talking to a girl, her name was Mary

We listened to the music
We discussed love, life, and politics
And all the time I'm talking to her
I'm thinking to myself "I'd like to kiss those lips"

As several cups of coffee
A packet of cigarettes, and a bottle of wine
Then Mary says to me "Hey baby, let's go back to mine"

It's funny how strangers
Can become lovers in just one day
Well, it's funny how lovers
Can become strangers in the same way

I'm in a bar all on my own
And I'm pondering on the past
Thinking about one of those relationships
And wondering why it didn't last

It was a short but sweet romance
We laughed, we drank, we sang, we danced
Two people that met by chance
And for those times I'd like to say thanks

You can know someone intimately
Then they become just a memory
Sometimes I think of her
I wonder does she think of me

It's funny how strangers
Can become lovers in just one day
Well, it's funny how lovers
Can become strangers in the same way

The Armchair

There's a woman looking at me
What you want, beautiful banshee
There's a woman looking at me
So crazy yet so sweet

And whether there's a man
He's got an Elvis hairstyle
He used to be a teddy boy
They call him the Blue Suede Builder
The king is alive and self-employed

In the city at the corner of the junction
Is a place of perfect dysfunction
I'm sitting here, killing time waiting
At the bar by the station
It's just life

There's a woman behind the bar
She always smiles and she says cheers
Well, she's pretty in a strange way
Her beauty carved from laughter and tears

And in the corner is an old man smiling
Smiling wily to himself
He just sits there in the armchair
He knows what it's all about

In the city at the corner of the junction
Is a place of perfect dysfunction
I'm sitting here, killing time waiting
At the bar by the station

It's just life
Life, life, life, life, life, life
It's just life
Life, life, life, life, life, life

Oh, there's a couple outside fighting
Neither of them want to leave
There's a couple outside fighting
But without each other they can't breathe

And in the corner is an old man smiling
Smiling wily to himself
He just sits there in the armchair
Well, he knows what it's all about

In the city at the corner of the junction
Is a place of perfect dysfunction
I'm sitting here, killing time waiting
At the bar by the station

It's just life
In the city at the corner of the junction
Is a place of perfect dysfunction
It's just life
I'm sitting here, killing time waiting
At the bar by the station
It's just life

Bright and Breezy

We met last summer
And we liked each other
So we became lovers
And we've been getting on great

Then she said
"I ain't ready for nothing heavy
If you want that, boy
You're gonna have to wait"

We're free and easy
She's my bright and breezy
I ain't hers
And she ain't mine
No, she ain't mine

Our little adventure
Carried on into the winter
And I became fonder
Of her day by day

Then she said something
When we were kissing and a-hugging
She said "Baby, you know I can't stay"
We're free and easy

She is my bright and breezy
I ain't hers
And she ain't mine
No, she ain't mine

She said "It's good for tonight
But not for the rest of our life
Well, I don't need a husband
And I can't be a wife
It is what it is
And baby, it's real nice"

Well, I kept calling
'Cause she left one morning
After I told her I loved her
But there was no reply

And her place was empty
But she left me
A note saying "Goodbye, sweetheart
Thanks for the good times"

We're free and easy
She's my bright and breezy
'Cause I ain't hers
And she ain't mine
No, she ain't mine

Twelve Years

Twelve years an employee and they got rid of me
Save your sorrys, I got four mouths to feed
I keep knocking on doors, but they just don't seem to open

There's a lot I can do and I'll learn what I can
Just give me a chance and I'll turn my hand
To anything, anything that you got going

'Cause I try
And I try
But it don't work

Doo-wop, doo-wop
It don't work
Doo-wop, doo-wop
Ain't no work
Doo-wop, doo-wop
Ain't no work
Doo-wop, doo-wop

Now it's been a fight to bring my kids up right
And I've never stolen a thing in my life
But it's getting a struggle just to put food on the table

Now we can't survive, couldn't stand the shame in my eyes
So I kissed goodbye to my hungry wife
And I went to provide the only way I was able

'Cause I try
Yeah, I try
But it don't work

Doo-wop, doo-wop
It don't work
Doo-wop, doo-wop
Ain't no work
Doo-wop, doo-wop
Ain't no work
Doo-wop, doo-wop

Now I can bet you think I deserve what I get
It's not what I wanted but I got no regrets
I didn't steal for greed, I simply stole for survival

Well, the bank robbed from me
So I robbed the bank
Their crimes mitigated by their circumstance
But no such thought was spared for me at my trial

Twelve years they gave me when they found me guilty
Too late for sorrys, no chance of reprieve
I keep banging on doors, but they just don't seem to open

'Cause I try
'Cause I try
Yeah, I try
And I try
But it don't work
It don't work

Doo-wop, doo-wop
Ain't no work
I keep trying
Doo-wop, doo-wop
It don't work
Nothing seems to go right
Doo-wop, doo-wop
Ain't no work
Everything's stacked against me
Doo-wop, doo-wop
It don't work
Doo-wop, doo-wop
I just wanna make an honest living
It don't work
Doo-wop, doo-wop
I keep trying and trying
Ain't no work
And trying and trying and trying
Doo-wop, doo-wop
But nothing works
It don't work
Doo-wop, doo-wop
How's this for a song
It don't work

Fuel For Fire

What happens to a love if it's unrequited
Does it ever go out once it's ignited
What happens to unquenched desire
Does it burn through your soul like a forest fire

What happens to a dream unrealized
Does it tarnish your spirit and dull your eyes
What happens to words unspoken
Do they lay heavy on the heart until the heart is broken

What happens to a dismissed idea
Does it fly into the ether and disappear
What happens to original thought
Does it stay a secret because it's not what we're taught

What happens to imagination
When it doesn't manifest into a physical creation
It's fuel for fire
A fire that burns and takes our consciousness higher

What happens to unfulfilled ambition
Does it leave you wishing you'd done something different
What happens to a hidden feeling
Does it consume the hope in the heart that's concealing

What happens to the hang-ups that you pick on when you grow up
Do you pass them on to someone else that you fuck up
What happens to a shadow of a doubt
Does it always stop everything working out

It's fuel for fire
Oh, it's fuel for fire
It's fuel for fire
A fire that burns and takes our consciousness higher
Check it out

The Greatest Trick

Is love just a trick of nature
So our species may succeed
To make our chances more successful
Oh, when it's time to breed

Oh, where does nature find the time to
Oh, conjure such emotion
Crushing hearts whilst crushing mountains
Moving mines whilst moving oceans

It doesn't fool our four-legged friends
But it seems to fool the swan
They swim in lonely solitude
When their love has gone

Is love just a trick of nature
The greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all
Well, if it is, I am truly
Glad to be duped
By the greatest trick of all

The greatest trick of all
It's the greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all
It's the greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all.
The greatest trick of all
It's the greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all

Is love just smoke and mirrors
Nature's sleight of hand
Sleight of hand
That makes the heart move much faster
Than the mind can understand

At best, the most amazing feeling
At worst, a joke that's cruel
Can make the smartest man or woman
Oh feel like a fool

Is love just a trick of nature
The greatest trick of all
Well, if it is
I am truly glad to be duped
By the greatest trick of all

It's the greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all

The greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all
Is love the greatest trick of all
Is love the greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all
Is love the greatest trick of all
Is love the greatest trick of all
The greatest trick of all
Is love

Intellectual Property

They knocked the door and I let them in
They said, "Okay, where shall we begin"
They looked around and they made a list
Of making sure that there was nothing that they missed

They boxed up my memories, bagged up my emotions
Filed away my ideas, threw away the notions
Took away my thoughts, confiscated words
Walked away with everything captured on the record

And now it's lying somewhere in a warehouse
Labeled Case 2053
My mind feels empty
Without my intellectual property
They came and took it off of me

I didn't own a car
I didn't have a TV
Just the ability to think freely
They came and priced it up
To put against my debts
And abstract value on all the words I said

They boxed up my memories, bagged up my emotions
Filed away my ideas, threw away the notions
Took away my thoughts and confiscated words
They walked away with everything captured on the record

And now it's lying somewhere in a warehouse
Labeled Case 2053
My mind feels empty
Without my intellectual property

They came and took it off of me
Without my intellectual property

I've got my mind set on another concept
A new design for this derelict mind
I paid my debts that I owe to the government
And now it's time for a total refurbishment

So box up those memories, bag up those emotions
File away those ideas, throw away the notions
Take away those thoughts, confiscate the words
I've got a new idea for a new record

And now I'm sitting in my brand new dream house
Saying all this stuff belongs to me
My mind's plenty with my intellectual property
No, you can't take it off of me
With my intellectual property

Fibonacci's number

Can you tell me what is causing this natural phenomenon
This field that seems to be shaped like an octagon
And this valley seems to mirror itself perfectly
A symmetrical receptacle just for me
And can somebody tell me why I'm feeling like this
When me and her seem to be dynamic opposites
I need to categorise I need to give it a name
I have a need to label things that I can't explain
It could be fibonacci's number
It might be fibbonacci's number
A friend of mine took an all inclusive holiday
To see the seven wonders of the world
A package a pilgrimage fourteen days to try and forget about
This girl drinks were free and sights historic
With a guaranteed deal that you would feel euphoric
He said it made him feel so insignificant
And he's given up his job as a civil servant
And he said I'm going up or going under
I'm going out to see fibonacci's number
Who is this fibonacci anyway?
Where does he hang out what does he do all day
And how can he know all the answers?
This fibonacci sounds like he's a chancer
But I take his number down in any case just
So I can speak to him face to face just
So that I can tell him thanks for filling out the blanks
